I really like Quantum reels the best they are not that much cost wise and they work great. Shimano is my second choice but they cost more.

Bassfisherman is right. Quantum reels are very good and less expensive. Let’s admit it: Shimano is over-priced… it’s very good but disproportionately expensive. You know, you gotta pay for the name… :-)
Why don’t you buy a good Daiwa for half the price (I mean I don’t know your budget so don’t want to offend you), and you can get a lot of other stuff (lures, etc.) for the difference. Here’s a good reel: Daiwa Coastal Inshore 4000. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa…
    Good luck.
PS. It will handle the biggest muskie you may hook into with ease… an 8000 size reel is overkill…

bass fisherman is right, i saw this guy use a quantam cabo coffee grinder with 80# spectra, he caught 12 yellowfin tuna, all over 75# and 4 over 200#.

if you hook up with a big Muskellunge (inland shark) you need a reel that will take some punishment. i advise the biggest and best.

go with the 8000 very good reel for bass and musky.
