Use an Ugly Stick… period. Not only is it easy on the wallett, it is also very strong and flexible making it mad fun to reel in almost anything besides the occasional stump! Ugly Stick is the most bang for your buck.
Also, a good reel for wallet and performance is a Shakespere reel. Keep it out of the water and oiled up and it’ll take a beating. Good luck fishin
hey there, the rod and reels that use to go after the ol kitty kitty are surf rod and reel combos from the walmart. i have 6-7-or 8of them and allof them have been great set ups from me. the rods all differ in sie anywhere from 6 foot to 9 foot long. i beleive that the most i spent on the combos were about 35 dollars. i have drug up 20 plus pound cats and 6 to 8 foot black tip sharks 3 to 4 foot stingrays. they all have been very reliable and worked just fine everytime that i call for them. e only thing that i would suggest is change the line on the reel. most of the time the reels come prespooled with 20 lb monofilament line and if you like that type of line then you can leave it but ot of cats hide in all kin of muck and around all kinds of debree and when hung up they will run you line through all sorts of mess so with that said when i buy a catfish/surf rod i change the line and add briaded spiderwire line. i have anywhere from 40,50, and 60 lb line becuase there is no telling what i am going afer and i want to make sure that i have a rod and reel with the proper size line. for the cat i would suggest a 20 to 40 lb test line and that will be plenty. man i hope this helps you out a bit good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
Wal mart has a great catfish setup. Its a shakepere reel on a 6′5 ugly stick rod. They’ve carried this same setup for years. I bought one about 3 years ago not thinking itd last me long because of the fact it was only 40 bucks but ive never had any trouble out of the reel or rod except for an eye breaking off the rod. Im sure bass pro has similar setups for about the same price if you’re hell bent on buying from them for some reason.
I have over 10K in offshore tackle and from using all of the high dollar tackle the rod - Ugly stick is made to take a beating.
As for the reel- Take a look at the Okuma- it is not the cheapest but will hold up for you. I would guess for 80-95 dollars. they may have a nice set up at bass pro already
If you have a Big 5 around your area go there; they have a fishing rod set with bait and hooks. Or go to a ***** sporting goods or maybe a wal-mart. I got my set for only 30 bucks! Its really worth it, buy some power bait while your at it!!!
BPS and cabela’s both carry a decent cat combo that won’t ding you too much. they have a few to choose from.
tell ‘em l sent ya.
no, wait… don’t tell them that. they might charge you extra.
Just make sure you got an open faced bait caster with medium heavy to heavy rod 6 feet 6 inches and use braided line with a mono backer.
bass pro is having a big sale. I just got another fishing pole for 20.00 its called the stampede by bass pro. Hope i helped!
