I fish a good bit, right now i have a light rod and reel and a medium rod and reel. i fish mainly for bass, but love to catch bream, bluegill and crappie. I have always used the cheap stuff, 8 dollar pole, 15 dollar reel. I saved up a little bit and i was wondering if buying a more expensive rod/reel combo would be worth it, if so what kind?

I recently bought a zebco 33 spin cast rod and want to know if this rod/reel is good enough for just going out once or twice a month and getting sunfish/bass. Also, I read this is a rod for beginners so am i going to look stupid being an adult and using a spin cast rod? Heres the link to the rod i bought along with the reel.

I was wondering if there was an all around fishing line that I could pair up with my rod/reel. I am only going to fish in freshwater: rivers, streams, and lakes. I’m not sure what I am going to fish for in the future but what I have is the only rod/reel that I am going to have for a long time so I would like to avoid respooling every time I went fishing. It was a bit overwhelming when I went to look for a type of fishing line (THERE WERE 1-2 WHOLE AISLES OF DIFFERENT FISHING LINE AT EVERY STORE I’VE BEEN TO).
ROD: Ugly Stik–6′6″–Medium Action–6-15 lb Line
REEL: Shakespeare (Generic one that was paired as a combo with the rod) 3 Bearing System–6lb/185yds–8lb/145yds–10lb/120…

Organized by the local volunteer fire dept..Most kids do not have their own equipment and would like to participate.

My wife and myself have took up fishing this year, and we have quickly became addicted to it. Yesterday I think I —about— caught my first, really, nice sized fish. I had closed face Zebco (Used one, someone gave me haha). Anyway we fought for 2 or 3 minutes and finally he took all my line, and I had my own version of Moby Dick to talk about… Since he stole my 5 dollar lure.
So we have decided to throw our ghetto poles away and get us some fairly decent ones. So brings me to the question, what should we get.
1. For pure fresh water fishing
2. I want them to be a Spinning Reel
3. Between 50 to 100 bucks for Reel/rod (Don’t have that much to spend)
4. I want to be able to handle some large fish. I want to be able to feel like anything I hook I will be able to bring in (In the fresh water).
That’s about it, we don’t have a lot more money to throw into this venture. As I said though 50 to 100 dollars per rod/reel be ok, closer to 50 the better though!
Thanks a bunch!

I just bought a shakespeare 6′6″ baitcasting reel and lined it with 20#. It doesn’t look to strong so my question is i know i’ll be able to use it for bait fish and bottom fish, but can i use if for stripers too or is it too small?

please describe you’re fishing equipment in exact detail thank you very much ; Elvis has left the building ; lol

My wife and myself have took up fishing, and we are using some old zebcos someone gave us lol. They are so old I believe Columbus used them on his way here.
Anyway I think its time for an upgrade to say the least. Mostly we get small fish, but I would like something that could actually net me in a big fish should the big fish choose to hit my line.
What is out there, we both in college so not swimming in money so can’t blow too much money :)
Thanks!

i ordered a light action rod/reel combo and then i found out i’m getting an ultralight action rod instead even though when i bought it said light action. so if i return this rod/reel combo will it count as my first rod/reel or not?

I don’t want to spend more than 200 dollars, and I need it to be a 2 peice at least, a 4 peice if possible.
