My budget is tight so im holding it to under $150 and can you tell me good fishing line at that lenght.

I fish a good bit, right now i have a light rod and reel and a medium rod and reel. i fish mainly for bass, but love to catch bream, bluegill and crappie. I have always used the cheap stuff, 8 dollar pole, 15 dollar reel. I saved up a little bit and i was wondering if buying a more expensive rod/reel combo would be worth it, if so what kind?

Nowadays, it’s the size and line capacity (and the size of the drag washers). But back when I was a kid, a buddy of mine showed up to fish off the pier with a freshwater reel, while I had my Penn spinning reel of the same size. I used my reel for years — his was good for that one trip — it rusted!
But nowadays, I think all reasonable reels are corrosion-resistant enough to use in the salt.

Rods with guides on top, are they spinning or casting? Or both, cause isn’t a Zebco reel a casting reel, but used on top instead of an open bail witch is used on the bottom? Oh boy, I’ve gone crossed eyed.

Professionals at bait and tackle shops have a machine that does it quickly and easily. I just mount the reel onto a fishing rod, feed the line through the guides, put the supply spool on it’s side on the floor, hold the line lightly between my fingers to keep a little tension on it and start reeling it in.
I would recommend using an Arbor knot to secure the line to the reel spool. Here is an excellent animated demonstration on how to tie this knot: http://www.animatedknots.com/arbor/index…
I’ve also had some anglers recommend putting only as much line as you need for making your cast onto the reel spool to increase your distance a bit. When you have a full spool, the line will whip around in a wider circumference, thus putting more friction against the rod guides. Make sure you also have enough line to play the fish, though, in case it puts up a big fight and tries to take your line out farther..

It’s about that time to replace my 12 year old reel. I am looking to do some lake trout fishing and just need something good for 6-8 pound test. Looking for something reliable with smooth casting and something that will last a while (given that I take care of it). I’ve been looking at some Shimanos (Sahara, Symetre, etc.) and various Quantums. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I need to buy some really high end reel to make myself happy.which rod should go with that.I have so many reels n rods but they just cant get broken cos I sort of a maintenance freak, everyday after fishing I will strip n clean the reel.So use to that its like 30minutes the most.which is better, high end but a bit decent/appropriate just more than usual.

I bought a eagle claw rod with a spinning reel and was hoping to go out fishing with a friend, but I didn’t receive an instruction manual with the box. I have attached the reel to the rod, but if anyone could tell me if there’s some special thing I should do with the line other then attach and knot things onto it, it would be helpful.
